New pelion-paths.gr website release

After a struggle of 11 months we have finally completed a new website about outdoors activities in Pelion-Greece: pelion-paths.gr.

The idea for the website was initially from the Mouresi Municipality
and was a part of a greater vision: to create an automated on-line system that will provide the tourists with a tool that would help them plan and conduct hiking trips, boat trips, car rides and mountain-bike rides towards the physical exploration of the area on mount Pelion in Greece.

The website consists of 5 main sections:

1. Pelion Sights
2. Pelion hiking routes
3. Pelion interactive map
   
4. Pelion species, and
   
5. Pelion news and events

The first approach of the project was made during February-May 2006 where the project's goals were analyzed and the draft plan was explained in detail to the officials.

The project was outsourced to our team right after a public competition held out by the local authorities during June 2006, and we begun to build it right after our contract agreement was signed, on July 2006. Our estimation was to complete in 8 weeks, but that was a dream that never came true.

Due to the complexity of the project (we had to build our own interactive map with navigation, on-demand point display etc) and the diversity of data sources (photographers, text-writers, hiking experts etc) we finally posted the primary beta version on October 24, 2007 and several follow ups since then.

New danae.gr website release

After 5 months of intensive work our developing team at the office has finally published the new version of www.danae.gr.
The website is about a Travel agency: Danae Travel Bureau, which provides travel services through the web such as online ferry ticket booking for ships conducting routes to/from and within Greece.
The website's first release date was on March 2005 and this new version was released on Tuesday May 29 2007.

The main key-features in this new 2007 release are:

1. ajax technology in ferry search form
2. xhtml compliant code
   
3. google maps api embedded
   
4. user interface (login, sign in)
5. full web-based data administration
6. shopping cart
7. international ferries custom services (compare prices, special discounts etc)
8. news database
   

Coming-up features will include:

1. Off-line booking request for routes that the system does not provide online booking,
2. Transfer services online booking
3. Pro section, for travel professionals only
   

The website uses the central reservation system (CRS) provided by Forthnet to actually book the tickets in real-time.

Kapsias Cave in Arcadia Greece

This is the exterior fortification of two unexplored caves in central Peloponese, Arcadia area, very close to Tripolis town. The round windows on the upper part of the wall, plus the great big fenced doors at the lower part of the wall, in addition to the fact that the whole thing is below ground level and that it is surrownded by a trench, tells me that this is part of something like a water disposal network system.

I say this because my friend and I fount another similar construction (smaller) about 500m to the north from this cave, and they both were connected by canals on the ground:

Καλές γιορτές

Εύχομαι σε όσους βρεθούν εδώ αυτές τις άγιες μέρες, να είστε καλά και να περνάτε καλά με τους αγαπημένους σας. Σε λίγες μέρες, το 2006 θα μας ταξιδέψει για ακόμη ένα χρόνο μέσα από ατραπούς και μονοπάτια στη γνώση και την επίτευξη των στόχων μας... Με λίγα λόγια στον προορισμό μας. Καλή χρονιά!

Σπουδαίο πράγμα το email...

- Ηταν μια φορά στις ΗΠΑ ένας άνεργος που έψαχνε για δουλειά. Πήγε, λοιπόν στη microsoft και ζήτησε να τον προσλάβουν ως καθαριστή. Ο προϊστάμενος, τον έβαλε να κάνει μια μικρή επίδειξη των ικανοτήτων του και τα πήγε καλά.
Κατόπιν του πήρε τη συνηθισμένη συνέντευξη (interview) και αφού έμεινε απόλυτα ικανοποιημένος του είπε:
- Με μεγάλη μας τιμή σας ανακοινώνουμε ότι η Microsoft είναι πρόθυμη να σας προσλάβει. Δώστε μας το email σας για να σας στείλουμε ένα έντυπο να συμπληρώσετε και να σας πούμε πότε και πού θα πρέπει να παρουσιαστείτε.
- Αχ, ξέρετε δεν έχω υπολογιστή στο σπίτι μου και φυσικά ούτε και email.
- Τι!!!! Δεν έχετε email κι έχετε το θράσος να ζητάτε εργασία στη Microsoft!!!! Αν δεν έχετε email κύριε για τη Microsoft δεν υπάρχετε.
Απελπισμένος ο άνθρωπος φεύγει. Στη τσέπη του είχε μόνο 10$. Πήγε λοιπόν στο σούπερ μάρκετ και αγόρασε ένα καφάσι με 10 κιλά ντομάτες. Αφού γύρισε από σπίτι σε σπίτι πούλησε τις ντομάτες και διπλασίασε το κεφάλαιο. Αφού επανέλαβε το αυτό άλλες τρεις φορές έφτασε τα 160$. Σκέφτηκε λοιπόν ότι έτσι θα μπορούσε να βγάλει το ψωμί του και έκανε κάθε μέρα αυτή τη δουλειά.
Σηκωνόταν όλο και πιο νωρίς το πρωί και επέστρεφε όλο και πιο αργά πολλαπλασιάζοντας συνεχώς το κεφάλαιό του. Κάποια στιγμή αγόρασε καρότσι, αργότερα φορτηγό μέχρι που έφτασε να γίνει ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους προμηθευτές τροφίμων των ΗΠΑ. Αποφασίζει, λοιπόν, να κάνει μια ασφάλεια ζωής γι` αυτόν και την οικογένειά του.
Πάει λοιπόν σε έναν ασφαλιστή και αφού συμφώνησαν του λεει ο ασφαλιστής:
- Δώστε μου το email σας να σας στείλω τα έγγραφα που θα συμπληρώσετε.
- Α, ξέρετε, δεν έχω email.
- Δεν έχετε email; Καλά έχετε χτίσει μια ολόκληρη αυτοκρατορία και δεν έχετε email; Αναρωτιέμαι τι θα ήσασταν σήμερα αν είχατε και email.

Two photos and one burned beach bag.

Touring in Paros island with my girl in 2001. This picture was made of two individual pictures. While we were shooting photos, our beach bag was being barbecued over my 200cc Honda's exhaust pipe. We enjoyed shooting photos but got a slap a few moments later: "Honey, do you smell plastic burning, or is it my idea?... " You can imagine the follow-up.
